Airlines Suspend Flights to Israel: What Travelers Should Know

Over the past week, major carriers—including Lufthansa, United and Delta—have announced suspensions of all flights into Israel through at least July 31, 2025 (Delta through August 31) due to heightened security concerns. This disruption affects faith-based tours, mission trips and leisure travelers alike.

Why Insurance May Not Automatically Cover Airline Suspensions

Travel insurance policies distinguish between:

  • Supplier-Initiated Cancellations (e.g. airline suspensions): the supplier owes you a refund or voucher.

  • Policy-Documented Cancelling Events (e.g. sickness, injury, death): these qualify for Trip Cancellation benefits.

Because airline suspensions are a “change in the bargain for arrangements” by the supplier—and not a covered peril under standard Trip Cancellation wording—they do not trigger an automatic claim payment.

Your Options After Flight Suspensions

  1. Contact Your Travel Supplier First
Airlines and tour operators often offer full refunds or vouchers for rebooking.

  2. Use Your Insurance Premium as a Voucher
    • If you cancel after the 10-day free-look, your insurer regards the premium as earned—but you may apply it to a future trip.
    • Complete our Change Request Form online to reserve your coverage for new dates.

  3. File a CFAR Claim
If you purchased a Cancel-For-Any-Reason upgrade, submit your claim for partial reimbursement (typically 75 %).

  4. Covered Reasons Beyond Supplier Cancellations
Should you face medical issues, death of a travel companion, or other policy-listed reasons, you remain eligible to claim under your original coverage.
