Middle East Travel Disruptions & Coverage Guidance

With ongoing airspace closures, political unrest, and changing government advisories in the Middle East, we understand many travelers are concerned about how their travel insurance may respond.

Here’s what you should know:

Coverage depends on timing. Whether a disruption happens before departure or during your trip can impact how benefits apply.

Government advisory levels matter. If a destination was under a Level 4 “Do Not Travel” advisory at the time you purchased your policy, most plans will not provide coverage related to that advisory. Travel insurance is designed for unforeseen events — not known risks.

Airspace closures alone do not automatically trigger coverage. Benefits such as Trip Delay or Trip Interruption apply only if the situation meets the policy’s specific covered reasons and definitions.

Acts of war are generally excluded. Most travel protection plans exclude declared or undeclared war and military actions. How exclusions apply depends on the official designation of events and the exact policy language.

Inconvenience is not a covered reason. General fear of travel or choosing not to go due to unrest typically does not qualify for reimbursement.

We are actively communicating with our insurance partners to obtain formal clarification regarding current conditions. As updated guidance becomes available, we will share it promptly.

As always, coverage is subject to the terms, conditions, and exclusions of the policy purchased. Travelers currently abroad should contact the 24/7 assistance number listed on their confirmation materials for immediate support.

If you have specific travel plans impacted by recent developments, please reach out to your travel insurance carrier so they can review your individual situation.
